Salt, Pepper, Apple and Egg
APPLE SQUARES

2 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg or 2 egg whites
3 T. water
6 c. apples, sliced
1 c. sugar
1 T. cornstarch
1 c. water
1 t. cinnamon
Mix flour, salt, cut shortening into particles the size of peas.
Combine egg, water, toss lightly until evenly moistened.
Roll out 1/2 of dough, put in bottom of 13x9x2 pan.
Fill with apples.
Combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and pour over apples. Sprinkle cinnamon. Roll remaining dough and put on top of apples.
Bake at 400 for 15 min. Then at 350 for 30 min.
When cooled, frost with icing.

Icing
1/2 c. confectioner's sugar, 1/4t. vanilla
2 t. butter, 5 t. milk
